Cheating and Online Chess

I woke this morning and the first article in my news-feed was a youtube link to IM Danny Rensch from chess dot com talking about online cheating. He mentioned the word “pandemic” in describing the avalanche of evidence gathered by their site on players using engines or bots to assist their play.

Yesterday I had a discussion with the CAQ President Mark C Stokes about cheating and online chess. He emphasised that players who use outside assistance risk not only their chess future with exclusion from programs like JETS Junior Elite Training Squad and having their over-the-board play restricted, but their future in general.

We are aware of incidents that have occurred in online play in Australia. We have tools built into the back end of Livechess Play that indicate that outside assistance is being used – and gather evidence of the same.

We will refer any player with the appropriate evidence to their relevant State Association for that bodys’ consideration at our discretion.
